Antigua Guatemala was originally named “Real Ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros” and used to be the capital of Guatemala. Settled in a valley for 200 years it was the most important city in Central America and largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1773 which ruins are still preserved. This tour will take you the central plaza with its main historic buildings making you feel that time might have stopped. Learn about the fascinating colonial architectural style and visit The Cathedral, Arco de Santa Catalina, El Carmen Market and lastly the beautiful façade of La Merced.
