Antigua Walking Tour Half Day/4hrs

Antigua Guatemala was originally named “Real Ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros” and used to be the capital of Guatemala. Settled in a valley for 200 years it was the most important city in Central America and largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1773 which ruins are still preserved.  This tour will take you the central plaza with its main historic buildings making you feel that time might have stopped. Learn about the fascinating colonial architectural style and visit The Cathedral, Arco de Santa Catalina, El Carmen Market and lastly the beautiful façade of La Merced.

What to Wear:

Antigua streets are made with cobble stone so please bring your comfortable shoes.  Sunscreen and a hat are also a good idea.

Your guide will pick you at your hotel and take you to central plaza were a summary of the history and background of the village and were in time are we settled. Then one by one he will explain each of the heritage buildings and why the Spanish colony built the towns this way.  Visit some of the most beautiful facades, admire the culture and the daily life. By the end of this tour you will get a reference point and make your own on exploring coffeeshops and Antigua´s streets.
